Heather Ryan’s Bright Future as a Mechanic

10/11/2016
Congratulations to Heather Ryan, one of our Year 12 students, who has been working towards becoming a mechanic for the past three years. Recently she graduated from the Acceler8 program sponsored by the Department of Education. She has completed two certificates: Certificate II in Automotive Vocational Preparation and Certificate II in Automotive Servicing Technology securing 6 points towards her QCE. Heather says “I enjoy being a mechanic because it is fun and it is different to what everyone else has done.” Heather has also completed work experience at Eagers Holden and a smaller business called Mikanics. Heather has been offered an apprenticeship with a couple of employers including Skyfleet Motors. She will become a fully qualified mechanic and she hopes other girls will also consider this job saying, “although the job is a male dominated area, I want to see more females to join me in this work place. I now have a number of choices of where I can work in the future. “
