Establishment
Everton Park State High School opened its doors on 23 January 1961 with Mr William Leslie (Les) Kemp as founding Principal.  In the word of the Principal Mr Morris Harnell, the second Principal regarding the school’s size, 'very suitable... not too small, yet not so big that problems multiply.'  Current Principal, Mr Rick O'Connor, is the twelfth Principal of the school.

Our School Name
Early history shows that the suburb Everton Park was named in the late 1890s after the homestead Everton, built by Ambrose McDowell who originally came from Everton, an inner suburb of Liverpool, England.

The original Stafford district was known as Happy Valley, and what is now Stafford Road was called Happy Valley Road.  In the 1880s, public opinion brought about a change of name from Happy Valley to Stafford, after the English County of Staffordshire.  Stafford Heights adopted the ‘Heights’ from the 1950s but it was not until 1976 that Stafford Heights and Everton Park became separate census districts.

Our House Names
1961 - Reveton, Tonever, Vereton
Midway through 1961, the Principal and his staff of nine organised the formation of three Sports Houses: Reveton (light blue), Tonever (gold) and Vereton (junior navy).  Each House name was an anagram of the word Everton.

1964  -Binni, Guraki, Nooroo, Tuarn
The 1964 school population was now such that it was decided to reorganise the student body into four Houses instead of three.  So Reverton, Vereton and Tonever were no more.  Students proposed names of aboriginal origin: Binni meaning Strength, Guraki Wisdom, Nooroo Speed and Tuarn Truth.

1998 - Rush, Martin
Former school houses Binni and Guraki merged to form Rush (after the actor Geoffrey Rush) and Tuarn and Nooroo reformed as Martin (after world squash champions Michelle and Rodney Martin).  The 1998 student body had voted for these names to honour former EPSHS students.  The colours for Rush were to be purple and red, for Martin green and yellow.

2020 - Kemp
In 2020 We welcomed our third house - Kemp to the family, named after the school's first Principal Mr Les Kemp. The house symbol is an academic owl who symbolises the strong academic tradition of Everton Park State High School
